This is my own paraphrasing of this Japanese folktale. Once upon a time, there lived a lovely young girl in what is now known as Osaka Prefecture. Living on her father's estate, she was happy and carefree, like a princess. However, her carefree life was about to come to an end. The Princess's mother was ill and on her deathbed. Her mother, worried about what would become of her daughter once she passed on, prayed to Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, for help.
